Our happy hour fact to amaze your drinking buddies with.

Flooding your friends' Facebook news feeds with trivial messages is the number one way to get yourself un-friended.

Christopher Sibona, a PhD student at the University of Colorado, Denver, surveyed 1,500 Facebook users on Twitter (holy Web 2.0!) about what sort of behaviors lead to them trimming their friends list. Sibona also found that 27 percent of un-friendings are due to offline behavior.

While we're surprised that too many updates about your kids didn't make this list, we guess that probably just gets dumped in the "unimportant" category. ...

Facebook Holding Special Event This Wednesday

http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/04/facebook-event/
Its been a big few couple months for Facebook the site launched its Places feature in August, had a major gaming-focused event two weeks ago, and recently revamped its photos feature to allow for high-resolution uploads (which is a big deal). And its not done: an invite just landed in our inbox for a special event this Thursday morning at 10 AM. Facebook isnt giving any hints as to what this event will cover (sometimes they do they told us in advance that the last event was focused on gaming). But the fact that theyre trying to get a bunch of reporters down to Palo Alto at 10AM would seem to indicate that this is important.
Were going to try to find out whats being announced, but here are a few guesses:

iPad: The lack of an official Facebook iPad app has been glaring since the device launched six months ago, and while some third party apps have stepped up to the plate (and done very well financially), a Facebook app is still nowhere to be seen.
(More) Places: Facebook Places launched in mid-August, and its still missing some key features, particularly on the desktop version of the website. Likewise, we could see a much larger campaign urging local businesses to become active on Facebook Credits.
Credits: Facebook Credits are being used more broadly in games (they frequently came up in the gaming event last month). But what about a broader launch?
The Facebook Bar Facebook has been working on a Meebo Bar clone for ages now they event announced it at f8. Where is it?
The Facebook Phone: They denied it existed. They they said it sort of does. A full launch is the next logical step, obviously.

Pervert Man/Boy Love Organizations on Facebook?

No, not really. Facebook officials tell CBS News that Fox, when pressed, provided links to four or five groups (none of which had more than 15 to 25 members each). CBS News reports the links were immediately disabled and the accounts were canceled. However, I am shocked that this group is even legally allowed to exist - on or off Facebook.
